Diagnosis

  1. Congo red staining of a renal biopsy
  2. Antibody or proteomic methods, such as mass spectrometry to type amyloidosis.14

Prognosis

  • 1 out of every 3 patients developed end-stage renal disease.17
  • Median renal survival was 62 months.17
  • ALect2 is often misdiagnosed as an amyloidosis derived from immunoglobulin light chain (AL).14
  • Creatinine levels have been suggested as a prognostic tool (See below).17

Treatment

  • Currently, there is no effective treatment.14
